IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

My media product (i.e. the magazine) follows the conventions of magazines well. Using publications such as NME and KERRANG! for inspiration I believe I used these magazines to my advantage and created my own innovative magazine yet following the powerful impact these magazines share. Firstly, it includes the masthead boldly displayed on the top of the newspaper, yet below is the banner (which is another convention) which distinguishes what the magazine is. The cover image is a convention of a magazine, where it also hides a minimal part of the title. This suggests that my magazine is recognisable and therefore the whole appearance and layout of my magazine is easily acknowledged. The image was also manipulated using brightness and contrast, to make it stand out, yet it wasn't so heavily manipulated that it draws attention away from the person and onto the effect itself, and that it doesn't cause the cover to be too 'busy' with its' design.
The banner typically consists of a free gift which is included in the publication, which is both eye catching and persuasive, as a free gift would add appeal to the magazine. It also mentions the pronoun "your" which involves the audience and makes them feel part of the publication, which would draw them to purchase the publication as it is building a stable relationship with the reader.
The magazine also features a strap-line, which is a convention for many music magazines. mine states, "Tis the Is". This is a simple, short and snappy as it goes straight to the point. It is also a play on words with the magazine it's self, as it's initials are 'TIS'.
Also, the headline of the cover is one of the biggest font sizes. It is a convention as it is the main article which could determine whether the reader would buy the magazine, and to make it appealing you make it as interesting and bold as possible to make it eye catching.
The font used is called "LONDON BETWEEN" which is an edgy, bold type face, enabling full attention to the text where ever needed. It is effectively used for all my font, and adds consistency and impact to my magazine. Making your magazine cover and magazine in general consistent makes your publication easier to recognise and builds an identity for it.
Also, the colours used in a magazine are a convention, as it too establishes the identity and company, which would also allow easy recognition for the reader.
There are also conventions of all magazines, including a barcode and magazine edition and price.
The language I use fits in with the genre and age range of my magazine, rather than the media product itself. This is because using language that will appeal to my target audience will make them more appealed to the magazine, as it relates to them.
